I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Get Your Resilient Spirit Back!
The constant deluge of daily violence, shrinking resources and economic turmoil can put us in a state of panic, frustration and paralysis. It takes strength and resilience to overcome today’s problems. Today, we take a look at being content in our troubled and torn world. Eileen McDargh in her blog wrote about being RESILIENT:
R: Remember to breathe. The ability to calm yourself is critical in order to assess the situation and move forward.
E: Enlist the support of others. When you love people you become lovable in return. A supportive family (whether genetic or created) is what keeps people alive. The English word wretched comes from the Middle English word wrecche which means “without kin nearby”.
S: Stay focused. Lay the groundwork for what you want in life. See it, say it and claim it. Don’t let external forces cloud your vision.
I: Identify your strengths. Good health are and energy are two of the essential ingredients in resiliency. Work on your physical well being first because it is the quickest way to gain control over a world that is uncontrollable.
L: Laugh loudly and often. You’ll be amazed at the shocked looks you get and you’ll feel better.
I: Insist on optimism. The ability to reframe a situation creates positive mental health. This is not the head-in-sand avoidance of reality but rather a recall of ways in which you have overcome similar situations.
E: Extend yourself and help others. Being selfish only serves to deepen depression and worry. Helping others lifts the cloud around yourself and allows you to become both blessed and a blessing.
N: Never say “never”. Tomorrow is another day. Let hope guide you.
T: Thanks-give it! Remember to be grateful for all you have.
How it Relates
Jason Colein his sermon Living a Life of Contentment says:
We do not like to say it this way, but discontentment is the same as greed. The bottom line is that this disease of discontentment will rob you of your joy.
Paul wrote the book of Philippians while in prison. I’m sure it wasn’t the happiest of times in his life but the book of Philippians is referred to as the “epistle of joy”. Paul suffered an upside down world and he needed both strength and resiliency to write his letters. The complications of daily life can zap your ability to cope with everyday issues. Be resilient and have strength – good times are ahead.
